The Environment

We take our environmental responsibility very seriously...

The spectacular setting and wealth of wildlife on and around the park are important to us. Our environmental policy is such that we wish to enhance this. The company has dramatically reduced its Carbon Footprint by constructing our own hydro-electric generator using water from the river. This means we are self sufficient for 9 months of the year and it reduces our electricity consumption in the busy summer months. The unique hydro-dynamic screw (the first in the UK) was a finalist in the Regen South West Awards and won the DEBI (Devon Environmental Business Initiative) Award for 2007. In 2009 we won the prestigous BCE Environmental Award in the SME category in recognition of the work that we have put in to reducing our carbon footprint.

We have saved, from April 2007 until May 2010, over 650 tons of carbon and have generated over 985,000 kWh of electricity worth in excess of £95,000.

We use environmentally friendly cleaning chemicals which contain no chlorine, our disposable plates, cups and cutlery are all biodegradable and we source our food from local producers and suppliers where ever possible.

Biomass Boiler and District Heating Scheme
This spring we have installed a 132 kWh woodchip boiler with underground district heating pipes which will provide hot water to both the Woodlands and Meadows amenity blocks, heating to The Old Sawmill, hot water and heating to three residential properties as well as Holne Park House.

This scheme will save over 200 tons of carbon and £20,000 annually. It replaces 11 oil and LPG boilers.

We ask that all visitors and guests respect the Park and do their bit by keeping the site clean and not dropping litter. In 2008 we introduced recycling points and we ask all guests to sort their waste accordingly. we also encourage a plastic bag free environment and our very own River Dart reusable bags are available from our on site shop.
